Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum will miss Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings due to a sprained left ankle suffered in Tuesday's loss to the Golden State Warriors. Head coach Joe Mazzulla expressed uncertainty about Tatum's return time, saying his ankle is sore and swollen.
Tatum sprained his ankle in the first quarter, but played through the pain to finish the game with 15 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. However, the Celtics' 17-point lead late in the third quarter evaporated in the fourth, forcing the game into overtime, where Stephen Curry took over and the Celtics' offense sputtered.
It marked the first time Tatum had missed a game this season, raising concerns about the depth of the Celtics' already injury-riddled roster. With Kristaps Porzingis also out, their four-game West Coast road trip has become even more challenging.
Mazzulla has prioritized Tatum's long-term health, saying he won't rush him back into action. Tatum's next chance to play is Dec. 23 against the Los Angeles Clippers, followed by Christmas Day against the Los Angeles Lakers and Dec. 28 against the Detroit Pistons.
